SUMMARY:Midsummer Conference on Open Quantum Systems\, Decoherence\, and the Quantum-to-Classical Crossover
DESCRIPTION:The theory of open quantum systems is essential for describing realistic quantum systems and their interactions with external environments\, such as thermal baths or more general uncontrolled environments. Over the years\, it has demonstrated its value not only through far-reaching theoretical results but also through its central role in modern experimental implementations. Compared with their closed counterparts\, open quantum systems display additional behaviours such as decoherence and dissipation. These processes can give rise to the emergence of a classical description\, a concept that lies at the heart of the quantum-to-classical crossover. This is a wide-ranging collection of ideas and tools aimed at explaining how both closed and open quantum systems can manifest as the classical world we observe. \nThe goal of this conference is to bring together researchers working on open quantum systems and/or the quantum-to-classical crossover. While work combining both fields is welcome\, contributions focused on the fundamental aspects of either area are equally valued. Indeed\, we believe that studying the fundamentals of each topic can spark interest among both communities. The conference aims to provide a space where results and ideas can be shared\, even when they come from different perspectives. The focus will be on the fundamental aspects of these subjects\, including experimental work. Because of its foundational focus\, this conference will not centre on quantum technologies and applications.

SUMMARY:Inside Quantum Technology Nordics
DESCRIPTION:Helsinki\, Finland\nScaling quantum computers towards real-world applications \n\nConference\, June 24-26\nIn-Person\n\n\n\n\n\nIQT Nordics Helsinki-Espoo is a significant opportunity for professionals in the quantum computing field to network\, share ideas and collaborate on groundbreaking solutions. This annual June event rotates amongst three Nordic region countries (Denmark\, Finland\, and Sweden; the first iteration took place in Copenhagen in 2023 and Gothenburg\, Sweden is the host in 2025). \nIQT Nordics Helsinki-Espoo 2024 takes place in Espoo\, next to Helsinki\, at the main building of Aalto university “Dipoli” and just a stone through away from the center of Helsinki and the beautiful archipelago outside these cities. \nThe theme is “scaling quantum computers towards real-world applications.” The conference features sessions on innovations driving quantum computer platforms forward\, development of large-scale QPU’s\, technologies enabling scaling of quantum computing\, commercializing quantum applications\, investment needs\, and global quantum ecosystems. Over 60 speakers and exhibiting organizations from the Nordic region and around the world are participating. \nIf you are interested in how quantum computers can be scaled towards real-world applications and want to stay updated on the latest developments in the field\, attending IQT Nordics Helsinki-Espoo would be highly beneficial. In addition\, you get a good understanding of what the Nordics bring to the global quantum ecosystem and get the chance to benchmark that towards global quantum ecosystems. \n\n\n\n\nVertical Topic Schedule\n(subject to change) \nJune 24\, 2024 \nEVENING \n\nWelcome Networking Reception\n\nJune 25\, 2024 \nMORNING \n\nSession 1: Innovations driving quantum computer platforms/hardware forward\nSession 2: Development of large scale QPUs\n\nAFTERNOON \n\nSession 3: Technologies enabling scaling of quantum computing\n\nJune 26\, 2024 \nMORNING \n\nSession 4: Software to scale up quantum computing\n\nAFTERNOON \n\nSession 5: Commercializing quantum – applications\, investments and competency needs\nSession 6: Global quantum ecosystems
