DESCRIPTION:QNetworks is a two-day international workshop organised by the Integrated Quantum Networks (IQN) Hub\, the UK’s flagship national programme for quantum networks research. QNetworks invites thought leaders from similar flagship R&D initiatives across the world\, and brings together key governmental and industry voices to discuss the challenges\, solutions\, and partnerships required to deliver the next generation of quantum networks. \nThis year’s event will take place in person at Bristol on 12-13 May\, 2026\, and will be free to attend thanks to support from the Engineering and Physical Science Research Council (EPSRC). \nSessions will cover recent developments on quantum memories; integrated photonics for quantum networking\, enabling technologies and field trials; the role of entanglement; post-quantum cryptography; quantum communications via satellite; networked quantum systems for distributed sensing and computing; and more. \nThere will be an opportunity for Early Career Researchers/PhD students to present research posters at the event. If this option is of interest\, there is the option to submit a 150-word abstract during the registration process. The deadline for submissions is Friday 17th April. \nQNetworks 2026 will be hosted at the Bristol Megascreen\, located within the Bristol Aquarium.

But as data complexity grows and the cost of missed anomalies rises\, classical AI is beginning to show its limits. \nQuantum Machine Learning offers a fundamentally different approach. In collaboration with Fraunhofer ITWM\, WISER developed and benchmarked Quantum Neural Networks (QNNs) on real industrial data\, training models on sensor readings from pneumatic systems and rotating machinery to detect faults before they escalate. Our benchmark evaluates a range of encoding strategies and circuit configurations\, providing an assessment of the current practical performance of QML methods. \nThis session uses industrial defect detection as a test case\, but the core principles and model architectures apply directly to anomaly detection across many sectors\, including financial services (fraud and market surveillance)\, healthcare (diagnostic and drug quality issues)\, energy (grid faults and predictive maintenance)\, logistics (supply‑chain disruptions)\, and cybersecurity (network intrusions and threat patterns). \nIn this session\, you will: \n\n\n​See how WISER and Fraunhofer ITWM built QNN models for anomaly detection. \n\n\n​Understand how quantum circuit choices impact performance\, training\, and scalability. \n\n\n​Explore how QML anomaly detection compares to classical approaches. \n\n\n​Gain a clear view of where Quantum Machine Learning stands today and its path to adoption.

DESCRIPTION:The theory of open quantum systems is essential for describing realistic quantum systems and their interactions with external environments\, such as thermal baths or more general uncontrolled environments. Over the years\, it has demonstrated its value not only through far-reaching theoretical results but also through its central role in modern experimental implementations. Compared with their closed counterparts\, open quantum systems display additional behaviours such as decoherence and dissipation. These processes can give rise to the emergence of a classical description\, a concept that lies at the heart of the quantum-to-classical crossover. This is a wide-ranging collection of ideas and tools aimed at explaining how both closed and open quantum systems can manifest as the classical world we observe. \nThe goal of this conference is to bring together researchers working on open quantum systems and/or the quantum-to-classical crossover. While work combining both fields is welcome\, contributions focused on the fundamental aspects of either area are equally valued. Indeed\, we believe that studying the fundamentals of each topic can spark interest among both communities. The conference aims to provide a space where results and ideas can be shared\, even when they come from different perspectives. The focus will be on the fundamental aspects of these subjects\, including experimental work. Because of its foundational focus\, this conference will not centre on quantum technologies and applications.
