SUMMARY:Single Photon Workshop 2024
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the eleventh Single Photon Workshop\nWe are looking forward to welcoming you to Scotland \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSingle Photon Workshop 2024\n\n\n\nWelcome to the home of the Single Photon Workshop 2024. The Single Photon Workshop (SPW) is the largest conference in the world dedicated to single photon generation and detection technology and applications. The biennial international conference brings together a broad range of people across academia\, industry and government bodies with interest in single photon sources\, single photon detectors\, photon entanglement\, and their use in scientific and industrial applications. It is an exciting opportunity for those interested in these technologies to learn about the state of the art and to foster continuing partnerships with others seeking to advance the capabilities of such technologies.\n\n\n\nProfessor Gerald Buller\, Heriot-Watt University and Professor Robert Hadfield\, University of Glasgow have been nominated to bring the prestigious 11th Single Photon Workshop to Edinburgh. The Conference is Scheduled to take place at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) over the five-day period\, 18-22nd November 2024. \n\n\n\n\nWorld leading researchers from international universities\, industry\, and government will present their latest developments in single photon devices and methods with a view towards improved performance and new application areas. \n\n\n\n\n \nProfessor Gerald Buller\n \nProfessor Robert Hadfield \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAudience \n\n\n\nQuantum science and single photon technology continue to attract world-wide attention due to the impacts they will have on computing\, sensing\, metrology and communications.  With an ever-growing international community\, the Single Photon Workshop thrives in its ability to attract leading figures from across the globe.  The most recent SPW conferences have been held in Seoul (2022)\, Milan (2019)\, Colorado (2017) and Geneva (2015) and have attracted an international audience\, with year-on-year delegate growth.  The expectation is that upwards of 400 delegates from around the world will be in attendance to enjoy a full technical conference along with a ministerial address\, an evening public outreach event and exhibition.

SUMMARY:Economics Of Quantum Information Technologies Conference
DESCRIPTION:November 15-16\, 2024University of Southern California\n\n\n\nWe are pleased to announce the 2nd Economics of Quantum Information Technology conference which will be held in person at the Marshall School of Business\, University of Southern California on November 15-16\, 2024.   \nOur goal is to establish a community of management scholars dedicated to unlocking the economic benefits of quantum technologies. Our focus is on quantum computing\, both hardware and software\, including AI for quantum and quantum communication\, as well as cryptography and cybersecurity. \nThe development of quantum technologies holds immense economic relevance. While technical innovation remains crucial\, it is not sufficient on its own. Research in the economics and management of quantum technologies is a vital missing piece in this puzzle. Years of innovation research has shown that technological development alone does not guarantee adoption. Technological adoption is essential for realizing economic and welfare benefits. Moreover\, forces affecting technological adoption also affect the rate and direction of innovation\, creating a critical feedback loop that is necessary for economic growth. EQIT’s goal is to unite researchers addressing this gap. \nThus\, we seek papers on topics related to the economics of quantum information technology\, including (but not limited to): \n\n\nHow do quantum technologies open up new market opportunities compared to classical technologies\, including advancements in other domains such as use of quantum simulation?  \n\n\nWhat insights can we gain about the economics of innovation by tracking the development of quantum technologies from their inception?  \n\n\nHow can our economics of innovation knowledge optimize the rate and direction of quantum technology developments?   \n\n\nHow do we evaluate and design incentives to invest human and financial capital in potentially high impact technologies characterized by substantial technological uncertainty?  \n\n\nHow does the prospect of quantum technology affect strategic decision-making in cryptography and cybersecurity? \n\n\n\nWe also seek applications from Ph.D. students interested in conducting research in this area\, who would like to attend the conference but do not have a related project at this point. The goal is to promote research activity related to the economics of quantum information technology\, and to enable graduate students who are interested in this area to develop a network of like-minded scholars. Applicants must have successfully completed the first year of their Ph.D. program. Please include your CV and a short one-page double-spaced description of your interest in this topic of research. \nThe deadline for paper submissions and Ph.D. student applications is August 30\, 2024. The program will be announced by October 15\, 2024.  Submissions should be submitted electronically at florenta.teodoridis@marshall.usc.edu. \n\nWe encourage the submission of full papers but also accept extended abstracts. Be sure to include your name and email address\, as well as the contact information for your co-authors (if applicable). \nPlease direct any questions to Florenta Teodoridis (florenta.teodoridis@marshall.usc.edu). Feel free to share with anyone who might be interested. \n

SUMMARY:QSim2024
DESCRIPTION:Recent experimental advances in controlling quantum coherence present new opportunities to realize quantum simulation of complex quantum many-body systems. Quantum simulators based on a variety of architectures\, including ultracold atoms and molecules in optical lattices\, trapped ions\, Rydberg gases\, isolated spins in solids\, and superconducting circuits\, proffer rich playgrounds for Hamiltonian engineering and time-dependent control of many-body quantum systems. Many of these systems can routinely achieve parameter regimes and sizes that are seemingly intractable to simulate on a classical computer. \nQSim is an international annual conference on quantum simulation that aims to bridge theory and experiment\, bringing together physicists\, engineers\, chemists\, material scientists\, mathematicians\, and computer scientists working at the forefront of quantum simulation and related problems that include applications\, algorithms\, verification\, noise\, scaling\, etc. for both analog and digital approaches. A special session midweek will be devoted to charting the future of the field. We hope that this conference will stimulate interactions across disciplines and unveil new connections between seemingly disparate aspects of physics. \n  \nInvited Speakers\n\nAndrew Baczewski\, Sandia National Laboratories\nImmanuel Bloch\, Ludwig-Maximilians University\nDolev Bluvstein\, Harvard University\nAnthony Chen\, Caltech\nToby Cubitt\, University College London / Phasecraft\nStefanie Czischek\, University of Ottawa\nEugene Demler\, ETH Zürich\nDi Fang\, Duke University\nAndrás Gilyén\, Alfréd Rényi Institute of Mathematics\nAram Harrow\, MIT\nRobert Huang\, Google Quantum AI / Caltech\nWilliam Huggins\, Google Quantum AI\nAbhinav Kandala\, IBM\nXiao Mi\, Google Quantum AI\nMario Motta\, IBM\nGuido Pagano\, Rice University\nMonika Schleier-Smith*\, Stanford University\nFederica Surace\, Caltech\nTim Taminiau*\, QuTech / TU Delft\nTingrei Tan\, University of Sydney\nRuben Verresen\, Harvard University\n\n  \nConference Organization Sponsors\nThe QSim 2024 conference organization is sponsored by the NSF Quantum Leap Challenge Institute for Robust Quantum Simulation and the University of Rhode Island.
