SUMMARY:Computing with Physical Systems
DESCRIPTION:There has been an explosion of interest in unconventional approaches to computing with physical systems (some recent reviews/works: [MMB2022]\, [SM2023]\, [WOG+2020]\, [HAK+23]). This has been driven by multiple factors\, including (1) the realization that there is the potential to build vastly more energy-efficient or faster computers if we rethink how we harness physical processes for computing – giving up some of the abstractions computers have relied on for 50+ years in exchange for being able to operate closer to the fundamental limits that physics allows\, and (2) the growth of machine learning – which provides both a strong motivator for more efficient machines to be built\, as well as a wealth of methods that can be used to reimagine how computers work. This Aspen Winter Conference will bring together both theorists and experimentalists across a broad range of disciplines – including soft condensed matter\, biological physics\, neuroscience\, machine learning\, hard condensed matter\, optics\, fluid dynamics\, and quantum information science – who typically do not have the opportunity to interact but who are all exploring various aspects of computing in different physical systems. Topics will include: \n\nInformation processing and dynamics in classical and quantum systems\, including (but not limited to) electronic\, spintronic\, optical\, mechanical\, fluidic\, biological\, and chemical systems.\nDevices\, architectures\, and algorithms for constructing physical machines that can learn without electronic processors.\nFundamental limits to computing: time\, energy\, precision.\nIntegrated sensing\, computation\, and actuation.\n\nThe conference will feature invited talks and discussion sessions. All participants will be invited to present posters. A welcome reception will be held on Sunday 7 January 2024\, and the scientific program will take place from Monday 8 January 2024 until lunchtime on Friday 12 January 2024.

SUMMARY:Physics of Quantum Electronics (PQE)
DESCRIPTION:The Winter Colloquium on the Physics of Quantum Electronics\, known as PQE is an annual physics conference that attracts the world’s experts in laser physics\, quantum physics\, and many other areas. January 2024 marks the 53rd winter meeting. \nPQE is held at Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort. All events take place in the Cliff Lodge at Snowbird. Snowbird is in Little Cottonwood Canyon\, in the Wasatch Mountains near Salt Lake City\, Utah\, in the United States. \n\n\nAll talks are by invitation only. \n\n\nThe posters submission deadline is November 1st. \n\n\n\n\nCheck in will be open January 7th from 6:00PM – 8:00PM in front of the ballroom. \n\n\nThe conference is self-supported and all participants are expected to pay the registration fee.  The regular registration fee is $550. It will be increased to $ 625 on January 7th.

SUMMARY:CircuitQED@20
DESCRIPTION:2024 marks the 20 year anniversary of the publications “Strong coupling of a single photon to a superconducting qubit using circuit quantum electrodynamics” in Nature and “Cavity quantum electrodynamics for superconducting electrical circuits: An architecture for quantum computation” in Physics Review A in 2004. \nWe invite you to a celebration of the 20 years of circuit quantum electrodynamics\, at Yale University’s campus in New Haven\, CT\, USA\, from January 10 to 12\, 2024. \nThis event is supported by the Yale Quantum Institute and the Sigma Xi Fund at Yale.
