SUMMARY:Workshop III: Many-body Quantum Systems via Classical and Quantum Computation
DESCRIPTION:The ability to coherently manipulate complex quantum many-body states offers the potential for dramatic improvements in a wide range of applications such as fast computation\, enhanced sensing\, and secure communications. However\, understanding and ultimately controlling the dynamics of such entangled quantum states pose a number of challenges in mathematics and physics. In particular\, the description of such complex quantum states often lies beyond the standard approach used in different areas of physics owing to their rich complexity. \nThis workshop is devoted to the related questions of how quantum and classical computers can be used to address important problems in quantum many-body physics\, ranging from simulating quantum chemistry to understanding information dynamics in quantum circuits. While the faithful representation of full many-particle Hilbert spaces on a classical computer is exponentially costly\, efficient approximate descriptions for specific purposes have been developed such as tensor network representations or mapping random circuits to statistical mechanics models. Also\, recent advances of quantum technologies enable the empirical investigation of previously unexplored regimes of physics with high complexity\, demanding new approaches to robustly controlling and utilizing near-term quantum devices for scientific discoveries and practical applications. This workshop will report the status quo of these developments and facilitate discussions for future research directions. \nThis workshop will include a poster session; a request for posters will be sent to registered participants in advance of the workshop. \nThis is a Julian Schwinger Workshop on Multiscale Physics\, made possible by a gift from the Julian Schwinger Foundation for Physics Research (JSF).

SUMMARY:Quantum Energy Initiative Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Launched in August 2022\, the Quantum Energy Initiative aims to foster a worldwide community of experts caring about the physical resource cost of emerging quantum technologies\, and willing to develop scientific approaches to estimate and minimize these costs. Addressing these questions mandates to put in synergy a broad range of expertises\, from fundamental quantum physics to enabling technologies\, from hardware to software\, from research to industry. This first inaugural workshop of the Quantum Energy Initiative will bring together highly renowned speakers of all these areas\, to provide their vision on these exciting and essential questions. It will also leave time for discussions and crossed-fertilization\, first steps towards the build up of new methodologies and roadmaps. \nPhysical resource costs will be explored at 5 interconnected levels\, defining the 5 topics of the workshop: \n\nFundamental quantum devices\nQuantum hardware\nQuantum algorithms and software\nHigh performance & hybrid computing\nFundamental thermodynamics of information\n\n

SUMMARY:Workshop IV: Topology\, Quantum Error Correction and Quantum Gravity
DESCRIPTION:Overview\n\n \nQuantum error correction has deep implications beyond quantum computing—two examples being its connections to topological phases of matter and quantum gravity. Recent exciting developments in these directions include the discovery of optimal quantum LDPC codes\, progress towards the quantum PCP conjecture such as the proof of the NTLS conjecture\, and the invention of Floquet codes. The workshop will focus on such new developments with the goal of finding better quantum error correction codes and new applications to open problems in quantum complexity theory\, topological phases of matter\, and quantum gravity. Error correction is also crucial in black hole physics. This workshop will explore (not necessarily unital) coding and complexity problems emerging from the information paradox. \nThis workshop will include a poster session; a request for posters will be sent to registered participants in advance of the workshop.

SUMMARY:Feedback in Quantum Machines 2023
DESCRIPTION:Feedback control is used everywhere in today’s current technologies – everyone that has noise cancelling headphones for example\, uses feedback control to cancel out surrounding noise. \nIn quantum machines – feedback control has been studied theoretically for some years\, but only recently has it become to be possible experimentally to develop these ideas. Researchers are now on the cusp of bringing advanced feedback techniques into quantum computing\, quantum sensing\, and quantum communications. \nThis meeting brings together theorists and experimentalists\, from around to world to share their knowledge on quantum feedback control and advance its potential use in tomorrow’s quantum machines. \nThis workshop is hosted by the Quantum Machines Unit in the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University\, Japan.
